CE Requirements for
Alabama Board of Dental Examiners
Up to 4 hours, every 2 years; counted toward the total; live (in-person) training only
Required annually for active oral conscious sedation (OCS) permit holders
Half of all CE hours must be related to the practice of dentistry. Dentists holding an active sedation or anesthesia permit must also maintain current ACLS certification (PALS may substitute for pediatric specialists); the rule requires live training annually but does not specify a fixed hour count. Maximum 4 hours annually for insurance, government regulations, tort liability, or risk management. Maximum 3 hours annually for practice management. Pro bono charitable work performed in Alabama may earn up to 4 hours annually (1 CE hour per 2 service hours). Instruction credit: 2 hours per hour taught, capped at 10 hours annually (no more than 8 hours in one day). Full-time post-graduate residents in CODA-accredited programs are excused from CE upon submission of an enrollment letter. Licensees must retain CE records for 2 years. CE Broker is the board-approved tracking platform.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Alabama Dentist renewal requirements.
