CE Requirements for
Alaska Board of Nursing
Required only when holder of a valid federal DEA registration with controlled substance prescriptive authority (AS 08.68.276; 12 AAC 44.470(5)); counts within the biennial continuing education total.
Renewal under 12 AAC 44.600 requires two of three pathways: continuing education per 12 AAC 44.610 (30 contact hours, at least 20 from accredited providers), uncompensated professional activities per 12 AAC 44.620 (30 hours over the biennium), or nursing employment per 12 AAC 44.630 (320 hours over the biennium). Inservice nursing education from a non-accredited licensed health care facility is capped at 10 contact hours within the CE pathway. CPR and BLS courses are excluded; ACLS, PALS, and other advanced courses are accepted. Renewing prescriptive authority under 12 AAC 44.470(2)(B) additionally requires current national certification indicating completion of the CE mandated by the certifying body. A licensee originally licensed in the second year of the biennial cycle complies with continuing competency before the second license renewal (12 AAC 44.650).
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Alaska Advanced Practice Registered Nurse renewal requirements.
