CE Requirements for
Alaska Board of Dental Examiners
Required only when holder of a valid federal DEA registration number (AS 08.36.071(a)(7); 12 AAC 28.400(a)(3)); counts within the biennial continuing education total.
Renewal under 12 AAC 28.400(a) requires 32 contact hours of continuing education and current CPR certification meeting 12 AAC 28.920. Approved providers include the American Dental Association (ADA), American Dental Hygienist's Association (ADHA), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), board-approved dental or dental hygiene colleges and universities, board-approved study clubs, and board-approved self-study programs (12 AAC 28.410). Course subject matter must contribute to professional knowledge or enhance patient services (12 AAC 28.410(a)). Internet-format continuing education is capped at 8 contact hours per day (12 AAC 28.410(i)). CPR training may not count for more than 4 contact hours of the 32 contact-hour total. Practice management and risk management courses are limited to 3 contact hours per licensing period (12 AAC 28.410(g)). Volunteer service in a dental setting may earn up to 2 CE contact hours for at least 2 hours volunteered (12 AAC 28.410(h)). First-time renewal under 12 AAC 28.405(a) requires one-half of the standard contact hours for each complete year licensed during the concluding period. Deep sedation, moderate sedation, and minimal sedation permits carry separate continuing education requirements documented in 12 AAC 28.010-28.027.
