CE Requirements for
Alaska Board of Marital and Family Therapy
Required of licensees who participate in teletherapy practice (12 AAC 19.300(c)); coursework must include teletherapy ethics; counts within the biennial continuing education total.
Required topic mix per 12 AAC 19.310(a): 2 contact hours professional ethics, 2 contact hours addictions, 2 contact hours cross-cultural education, and 2 contact hours related to issues of domestic violence; the same four topic minimums apply at all renewals. Licensees who participate in teletherapy must additionally complete 2 contact hours of teletherapy continuing education that includes teletherapy ethics (12 AAC 19.300(c)). Individual study (correspondence, asynchronous video or streaming, or other individual-study programs) may not exceed half of the renewal contact hours (12 AAC 19.320(e)); the remainder must be synchronous (live in-person or live online). Instructors presenting counseling or client-treatment material must hold a master's degree or higher in a mental health field unless pre-approved (12 AAC 19.320(d)). First-renewal proration under 12 AAC 19.310(b)-(c): 30 contact hours total if licensed 12-17 months of the concluding period, 23 contact hours total if licensed under 12 months; the four 2-contact-hour topic minimums apply in all cases. Board pre-approved 'other' courses are capped at 15 contact hours per cycle; first-time-presentation and first-time-publication credit are each capped at 10 contact hours (12 AAC 19.320(b)(5)-(7)).
