CE Requirements for
Alaska Board of Professional Counselors
Required topic mix per 12 AAC 62.310(a) for biennial licensing periods beginning on or after November 1, 2023: 3 contact hours professional ethics, 3 contact hours suicidality, and 3 contact hours cultural competency. A minimum of 20 contact hours must be earned through synchronous courses, seminars, or workshops including realtime audio and audio-visual instruction (12 AAC 62.310(d)). Individual study (correspondence, videotape, audiocassette, or other self-paced programs) may not exceed half of the renewal contact hours (12 AAC 62.310(e)). Not more than 12 contact hours may apply within any single day (12 AAC 62.310(h)). First-renewal proration under 12 AAC 62.310(a)(1)-(3): 20 contact hours if licensed under 12 months of the concluding period, 30 contact hours if licensed 12-17 months, 40 contact hours if licensed 18 months or more. Board pre-approved 'other' courses are capped at 15 contact hours per cycle (12 AAC 62.320(b)(7)); first-time-presentation and first-time-publication credit are each capped at 10 contact hours (12 AAC 62.320(b)(4)-(5)). Becoming a board-approved counselor supervisor under 12 AAC 62.220 requires a separate 25 contact hours of supervision continuing education within the two years preceding application, including 12 synchronous hours.
