CE Requirements for
Alaska Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Board
Renewal under 12 AAC 54.400 requires three elements: (a) a board jurisprudence questionnaire; (b) continuing professional practice under 12 AAC 54.405 (60 contact hours of physical therapy services during the concluding period, or one alternative: the national physical therapy examination, 40 additional contact hours of continuing education, an APTA-approved review course, or a board-approved 150 contact-hour internship); and (c) 24 contact hours of continuing education. At least one-half of the 24 contact hours must come from an accredited academic institution or a board-approved professional organization (12 AAC 54.410(b)). Approved providers include AKPTA, APTA, FSBPT, other state PT associations and licensing boards, and AMA Category 1 and 2 courses involving physical therapy (12 AAC 54.420). Staff meetings, rounds, CPR, first aid, and OSHA training are not accepted (12 AAC 54.410(e)). First-renewal proration: 12 contact hours if licensed under 12 months of the concluding period, with a national-exam alternative (12 AAC 54.410(a)). Half of the CE hours are waived for at least 6 consecutive months of active-duty military service; all CE hours are waived for 12 or more months of such service (12 AAC 54.435).
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Alaska Physical Therapist renewal requirements.
