Florida Physician Assistant
Required every third biennium; included in the 100 total hours required
Required for first biennium renewal only; must be Category I
Required for prescribing physician assistants per specialty area of supervising physician; included in the 98 general CME hours; Prescribing PAs
Effective January 1, 2017; 3 of the 10 specialty hours must be on controlled substance prescribing; must be given by a statewide professional association of physicians accredited for AMA Category I or AAPA Category I credit; Prescribing PAs
Total of 100 hours required per biennium. Minimum 50 hours must be Category I CME; remaining 50 hours may be Category II CME. A current NCCPA certification can substitute for the 98 general CME hours (proof of Medical Errors, Domestic Violence, and specialty areas still required). For first biennium renewal: 2 hours Medical Errors, 1 hour HIV/AIDS (Category I), and 97 hours general CME; NCCPA certification may substitute for the 97 general hours. Domestic Violence (2 hrs) required every third biennium. Up to 5 hours/biennium may be earned by attending full-day Board of Medicine disciplinary hearings (ethics/risk management). Up to 5 hours/biennium may be earned via pro bono medical services for indigent/underserved populations. Report completions through the board's official CE tracking system. Military and Volunteer Health Services exemptions available. Volunteer Health Services exemption may waive renewal fee and up to 25% of CE hours, but mandatory topics (domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, medical errors, prescribing) cannot be waived.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Florida Physician Assistants Temporary renewal requirements.
