Required one time on or before October 31, 2027 for all licensees; counts toward the fourteen-hour annual total.
The earning period runs November 1 through October 31. KBN accepts four alternative methods to satisfy the standard fourteen-hour requirement: continuing education contact hours, current national certification in the nurse's practice role, research or preceptorship activity plus the required education, or seven hours plus a satisfactory employment evaluation. Nurses retain CE documentation for at least five years and submit records via the nurse portal within twenty days of a board audit request. APRNs additionally complete pharmacology and prescriber-specific CE under 201 KAR 20:215; APRN requirements are tracked in the APRN record. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) have additional CE under 201 KAR 20:411.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Kentucky Registered Nurse renewal requirements.
