CE Requirements for
Louisiana State Board of Dentistry
Current CPR or BLS for healthcare providers certification must be maintained at all times; the board awards three clinical credit hours toward the renewal total for successful completion of a basic life support course under LAC 46:XXXIII.§1613.
Authority: La. Admin. Code tit. 46, §§ XXXIII.1607 (first-renewal and other exemptions), 1613 (hygienist CE), 1615 (approved providers), 1617 (sponsor four-year recordkeeping). Renewal cadence is biennial and group_based, keyed to the licensee's last-name initial at original issuance — see the LSBD FAQs. Dental hygienists renewing their license for the first time are exempt from continuing education for that renewal cycle; the exemption does not apply to maintaining basic life support certification. The board does not specify minimum hours for CPR or BLS certification — it is a maintain-at-all-times credential and earns three clinical credit hours toward the renewal CE total when completed via course 'C,' basic life support for healthcare providers. All CE must be clinical in nature; non-clinical courses are not accepted, and CE ordered as a disciplinary sanction does not count toward the mandatory renewal requirement. Dental hygienists may earn two clinical credit hours per pro bono donated dental service patient up to a four-credit maximum per biennial renewal, and current board members may earn four credit hours per attended American Association of Dental Boards meeting. All CPR, BLS, ACLS, and PALS cards must be uploaded into the CPR section in CE Broker; report completions through the LSBD CE Broker portal.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Louisiana Dental Hygienist Louisiana renewal requirements.
