CE Requirements for
Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists
Required upon first renewal after April 1, 2026 per Maryland HB 783; one-time attestation requirement, separate from the COMAR 10.58.05 CEU pool and not counted toward them.
At least thirty of the forty CEUs must be Category A (formally organized programs from Board-approved sponsors per COMAR 10.58.05.07); up to ten may be Category B (informal in-house, peer supervision, or distance learning with verification per COMAR 10.58.05.06).
Implicit Bias and Structural Racism Training: hours are not specified by statute, attestation only. Audit-retention: certificates retained five years per COMAR 10.58.05.03.D. Home study (independent study without evaluation or verification) is excluded entirely per COMAR 10.58.05.04.B. First renewal periods of less than two years require only twenty Category A CEUs per COMAR 10.58.05.03.C. Inactive status available for up to five years.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Maryland Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor renewal requirements.
