CE Requirements for
Texas Medical Board
Perfusionists have two pathways to meet CE requirements: (1) Maintain current ABCP certification, or (2) Complete 30 CEUs every 24 months (at least 15 of which must be ABCP-approved Category I hours) AND complete 40 cases as Primary Perfusionist for Cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, VAD, Isolated Limb Perfusion, or VENO-VENO bypass per biennial period. One CE/contact hour = 50 minutes. The 24-month timeline is tied to the biennial registration period, not the calendar year. Temporary permit holders are exempt from CE requirements. Documentation must be retained and provided upon audit request; do not submit with registration. Random audits are conducted after each registration period. Exemptions may be requested in writing at least 30 days before license expiration for catastrophic illness, military service >1 year outside state, residence >1 year outside the US, or other good cause; exemptions are limited to one registration period but may be renewed.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Texas Perfusionist renewal requirements.
