CE Requirements for
Texas Medical Board
One-time requirement for physicians who provide obstetric care.
Required for physicians who perform forensic examinations on sexual assault survivors in emergency settings.
Off-line medical directors, within two years before or after initial notification to board.
Off-line medical directors, each subsequent biennial renewal.
Required for medical directors and personnel of pain management clinics, per biennium.
At least 24 of 48 CME hours must be formal Category 1 or 1A; up to 24 may be informal. Ethics, pain management, and human trafficking hours cannot be carried forward; up to 48 excess hours of other credits may be carried forward (two-year limit). Newly licensed physicians are exempt from CME on first renewal. Board certification within the preceding 36 months exempts all CME for one registration period.
CE courses from providers approved by these accreditors count toward your Texas Physician renewal requirements.
